History

The Shichida family began a water-mill business in Ogi in 1861 and took over a closing brewery's equipment in 1875 to start making sake. In the 1970s the fourth generation began making junmai, and the fifth, under the idea that sake making starts with rice growing, launched the Iwanokura brand. The sixth-generation head, Kensuke Shichida, works under the motto of timeless tradition with innovation. Brewery buildings from the Meiji to Showa eras remain in use and are registered as Saga heritage.
