History
In 1823 (Bunsei 6) the Shata family opened the brewery on the Kaga plain at the foot of Mount Hakusan. The name Tengumai comes from a tale that the wind in the deep forest around the brewery sounded like dancing tengu. In the Showa era the seventh head and his toji established the brewery's yamahai method. It still values hand work and traditional yamahai, brewing with water from Mount Hakusan. A shop in a renovated old building stands next to the brewery.
