What kind of brewery is Saga Shuzo?
The brewery began in 1688, when the Nabeshima family, lords of Saga, ordered Koga Rokuemon to brew sake, and he opened a brewery under the name Kankiku. In 1859 the eighth head, Bunzaemon, studied brewing again in Nada and made a highly aromatic sake. The domain lord, Nabeshima Naomasa, named it Madonoume, and the brewery took the same name. In the Meiji era his grandson Bunichiro modernized the brewery. In 2022 the company became Saga Shuzo Co., Ltd. and launched the Saga brand, and a new brewery was completed in April 2026.
