What kind of brewery is it?
Nagayama Honke Shuzōjō was started in 1888 by the first head, Nagayama Kitsutarō, in Futamatase, Ube, Yamaguchi. After his death in 1905, his two sons took over the family headship and were active in local festivals and public works. Interest in sake declined over the following decades, and in 1999 the fourth head, Yoshiki, took over and looked for a new direction. In 2001 the current head, who also serves as toji, joined the brewery and launched Taka in 2002 after seeing the potential of junmai sake. The company became a stock company in 2007, and in 2013 the toji became its representative director.
