The distillery was founded in Shuri in 1883 under the name Higa Shuzo and took the name Masahiro Shuzo in 2015. The company presents its origins in a family that received brewing rights from the Ryukyu royal court. It keeps to all-koji brewing with black koji and offers aged Masahiro, the easier Shimauta, and an Okinawan craft gin among others. The Awamori Masahiro Gallery in Itoman lets visitors see the production line and taste.
