What kind of brewery is it?
The company traces back to Ishikuraya, a merchant house that came to Hakata with the Kuroda family. It ran a shipping wholesale business in the Edo period and entered sake brewing in the late Edo period. The present brewery was built in 1870 as Ishikuraya's second brewery and was registered as a national tangible cultural property in January 2011. A fire from an electrical leak damaged part of it in October 2011, and a fourth brewery building on the grounds, Shirakabegura, was completed in June 2015.
