What kind of brewery is it?
The first generation of the Watanabe family moved to Gojome from Ishikawa in the Azuchi-Momoyama period and is said to have begun brewing there in 1688. Early brewing was mainly doburoku, and full sake production is said to have started in the late Edo period. A fire in October 1921 destroyed most of the buildings, but the upper and lower sake storehouses survived and were registered as tangible cultural properties in 1996. The company was established as Watanabe Hikobee Shoten in 1953 and renamed Fukurokuju Shuzo in 2004.
