Yokota Shuzo (横田酒造株式会社)

Yokota Shuzo is a sake brewery in Gyoda, Saitama, founded in 1805 and brewing the Nihonbashi and Ukishiro brands.

What kind of brewery is Yokota Shuzo?

Yokota Shozaemon, an Omi merchant, came to Edo and then opened a sake brewery in Gyoda in search of good water. The first-generation founder came from Shiga and trained at a sake wholesaler in Nihonbashi before going independent. He named the sake Nihonbashi after his place of training, as a reminder to keep his original resolve. Ukishiro takes its name from the local story of Oshi Castle, which did not fall to a water attack. The current representative is the sixth-generation Shozaemon Yokota.
