The distillery was founded in Taisho 6 (1917) and marked its 100th year in 2017. Its home, Tsuruha, is said to have been visited by cranes. It brews with clean natural groundwater from the Kuma area and grows rice (Hinohikari) around the distillery, looking after the shochu from crop to bottle. Rather than relying on filters, it removes surface oils by hand in the coldest months and bottles some shochu unfiltered to keep its flavor.
