What kind of brewery is it?
In 1865 Sato Tohei, of the Sato family that served as village headmen, acquired timber gathered for rebuilding a turret of Nagoya Castle and built a brewery. He started brewing under the trade name Tatsutaya and the brand Kankou. In 1921 the brand was renamed Azumaryu, combining the founder's name and the trade name. The original brewery building still stands on a raised stone base, a flood-protection style called kura-shiki mizuya. The company was later incorporated as Toshun Shuzo, and the family has passed the business down to a sixth-generation head.
