History
The brewery dates its founding to 1673, when Rokuzaemon Nakaya began brewing in Wakayama under a licence from the Kii domain. It moved to Fushimi in 1953 after the war. In 1964 it championed pure rice sake made without added alcohol, and in 1982 it revived the near-extinct Omachi rice. Since 2021 it has also produced sake from organically certified rice. It brews with subsoil water from the Momoyama hills of Fushimi.
