What kind of brewery is Sasamasamune Shuzo?
The brewery was founded in 1818 in Kitakata, Aizu, by Iwata Zenjibei Yoshinaga, who put quality first. Brewing know-how passed down through successive family heads, and the company became a corporation in 1956. It avoids excessive modernization and mass production and keeps to traditional methods. It began making junmai sake in 1977 and in 1986 released a junmai made only with pesticide-free rice. In recent years it has specified rice-growing areas and works with farmers to grow pesticide-free and organic rice.
- Style
- As a junmai brewery, it holds "making the real thing" as its company creed.
