History

Sakata Shuzo began in 1946, when five Sakata breweries (Otokoyama, Yoro, Fujiya, Chisatoi and Tamanokawa) merged. The Hashimoto brewery at the centre of the merger still serves as the main building. The brewery uses water from the Chokai mountain range and works with many sake rice varieties to bring out each one's character. President Shoichi Sato studied brewing at Tokyo University of Agriculture and also serves as toji.
