The brewery began in 1832 as a sake for travelers from Edo at the Shimada post town on the Tokaido. It has continued for over 190 years and is loved as a brewery remaining in the town. It joined the Nihon Meimonshukai in 1979, and its sake now reaches other parts of Japan, Asia, America and Europe. Since the 2011 fiscal year the toji has been Satoshi Hibino. The brewery building is being rebuilt, and new sake brewing has been paused for a period.
