The company began in 1889 when local volunteers who wanted to contribute to Nishinomiya's growth set up the joint-stock Nishinomiya Kigyo Company and started brewing. It adopted the Nihonsakari trademark in 1897, and Soka became a court-household sake in 1913. It aired television commercials early, in 1961, and in 1980 was the first in the industry to sell sake in PET bottles. It brews in the Nada Gogo, helped by Nishinomiya's Miyamizu water and sake rice such as Yamadanishiki. The Sakagura-dori Renga-kan, opened in 2000, has a shop, a restaurant and a glass workshop.
