What kind of brewery is it?
Founded in 1733 by the first head in Ono, Fukui, the business began under an earlier shop name as a merchant dealing in metalware. After repeated fires in the town, it switched to sake brewing in 1901, and after trial brews the sake was named Hanagaki after a cherry tree avenue in full bloom. After the war the eighth head rebuilt production, and in 1950 the business was reorganized as Nambu Shuzojo. In 1982 the ninth head took over, valuing handmade methods while modernizing. The current head is the tenth generation.
