What kind of brewery is it?
History
The brewery began in 1844, when its first head, Tomijiro Oguri, took over a sake brewing licence from the Nakano family, who were known for sake-lees vinegar. Handa on the Chita Peninsula lies between Edo and Kamigata and has long been a centre for brewing sake, vinegar, miso and soy sauce. The name Kunizakari expresses a wish for the country to prosper and for the sake to flourish with it. The company became Marunaka Shuzo in 1909, and once a new brewery was completed in the mid 1980s the old buildings, in use for about two centuries, opened as a museum. It took its present name in 1990 and now also makes plum wine, liqueurs and amazake.
