Muhyo Shuzo (霧氷酒造株式会社)
Muhyo Shuzo is a shochu distillery in the Sotome area of Nagasaki City, making sweet potato, barley and rice shochu. It restarted in Sotome after its earlier base in Shimabara was lost.
What kind of distillery is Muhyo Shuzo?
The company made shochu in Shimabara from the Meiji era, but the debris flow from the May 1991 eruption of Unzen Fugendake destroyed its offices and plant and forced it to close. With support from Nagasaki Prefecture, Nagasaki City and others, it moved its head office to the Sotome area in 2010, built a new plant and resumed production on 2 November that year. In April 2011 it released Nagasaki Manman.
