Momokawa (桃川株式会社)

Momokawa is a sake brewery in Oirase, Aomori Prefecture, that makes the Momokawa and Sugitama brands. It uses water from the Oirase River system. It was founded in 1889. KIKI lists 2 of its bottles.

What kind of brewery is Momokawa?

Momokawa traces its origins to the Edo period, and full-scale sake brewing began in 1889 (Meiji 22), which the company counts as its founding year. At that time the brewery drew on water from the Hyakkoku River, now known as the upper Oirase River, and the name was made by swapping the character for the number hundred in the river's name for the character of the fruit peach. The company was incorporated in 1944 (Showa 19) and has kept a policy of quality first.
