History
Shozaburo Miyazaki founded the brewery in 1846 in Kusu, on Ise Bay, making shochu and mirin and shipping to the Kanto region along Edo-era sea routes. It moved to its present site in 1900, on grounds of about 8,000 tsubo. A continuous still was installed in 1930, and the company became a joint-stock company in 1951, launching the sake Miya no Yuki. Kusu once had more than 30 breweries, and this is the only one still brewing. A new sake brewery able to handle small batches was completed in 2018. A seventh-generation head now leads a range covering sake, shochu and whisky.
