What kind of brewery is it?
The first-generation Wakichi was born in Echigo, worked at a sake brewery in Joshu, became its head clerk, and went independent in Akaiwa Village, Gunma, in 1873. In 1876 he rented a brewery in Shimonara, in present-day Kumagaya, and began brewing, naming the sake Kintaisei after a sumo victory term. In 1883 he rented the Ogino family brewery in Yokose Village, later bought it and rebuilt and renovated it, and brews there today. The whole brewery became a Saitama Prefecture modernization heritage site in 1994. Since 1998 the company's own staff have done the brewing instead of hired toji.
