Kubo Shuzo (久保酒蔵株式会社)

Kubo Shuzo is a distillery in Nagasu, Usa City, Oita Prefecture, making handcrafted barley shochu under the Kubo brand from naked barley. It was founded in 1789.

What kind of distillery is Kubo Shuzo?

The business began in 1789 when Kubo Sokichi started sake brewing. It made sake under the Enmei brand in the Taisho and Showa eras and under Seifu after the war, but stopped in the 1970s as sake demand fell and the distillery went dormant. After a toji joined in 2007, it revived and launched handcrafted barley shochu Kubo. It became a partnership in 1953 and a joint-stock company in 2006.

Ingredients
The white koji Kubo is made only from naked barley grown in Usa. The black koji Kubo is made only from naked barley from Ehime.
