What kind of distillery is it?

History

The Akune distillery follows the lineage of the Kurose toji, brewers who raised the quality of shochu through black koji. In 1967 Kurose Yasumitsu, a son of Kurose Kinjiro, became head brewer here at age 30 and worked on roasted sweet potato shochu and long-aged imo shochu. The company took the name Kagoshima Shuzo in 1987, and in 2013 the distillery was renamed the Kurose Toji Heritage Brewery. A second-generation toji now leads production on a hillside facing the sea, making food-friendly shochu such as the white koji Satsuma Morohaku.
