Where to buy
What kind of brewery is it?
The brewery traces its start to 1704, when the founder Toyasu began trading in Furukawa. After the 1707 earthquake brought a famine to Hida, he travelled to Etchu to buy rice but was stopped at the border. Moved by his resolve, a magistrate allowed his trade with Etchu for his lifetime, and the wealth and foundation he built led to sake brewing and the Shiramayumi brand. The name is said to derive from a Manyoshu pivot word and the mayumi trees that grow in Hida. The 13th-generation head of the family now leads the brewery.
