Where to buy
What kind of brewery is it?
The first head, Hayakawa Hanzaburo, ran a rice dealership in the Edo period and began brewing in 1873 at Tenkasuga in Yokkaichi. The flagship Tenichi takes its name from that place and from the founder's wish. The brewery stayed there through the Meiji era, then moved with its building to the banks of the Asake River in 1917, where it has brewed for nearly a century with the river's groundwater.
What makes it distinct

- Ingredients
- Uses Mie-grown Yamada Nishiki rice.
- Style
- Known for full-bodied sake that draws out the flavour of the rice.
- Yeast
- Builds a strong koji and a yamahai yeast starter to turn as much of the rice as possible into sake.
