History
The brewery began in 1711 (Shotoku 1) when the first Osakaya Chobei started brewing in Imazu village. The Osabe family ran it for generations; the brand was first Banryo and became Ozeki from 1884, after the sumo rank. In 1810 the family built the Imazu lighthouse to help sake-barrel ships. One Cup Ozeki was launched in 1964 on the opening day of the Tokyo Olympics, and a California subsidiary was set up in 1979. The company took its present name in 1991, and in 2021 launched new brands for its 310th year.
