What kind of distillery is it?

History

The distillery was founded in Takachiho in 1954, taking over a sake licence from Matsuda Shuzo that dated back to the Meiji era. Kurouma, now its flagship barley shochu, was launched in 1984. It stores spirit in a disused railway tunnel that also serves as a tourist site. In 2009 it opened a factory in Saito, a sweet potato growing area, brewing with the clear Saito Shimizu water. It makes barley, sweet potato and buckwheat shochu and puts effort into barrel aging.
