History

The distillery was founded in 1870 (Meiji 3), when Kagoshima moved from a domain to a prefecture and Western culture was arriving quickly. It aims to carry that open spirit and romance into its shochu. It became a joint-stock company in 1922. Main lines are the Oyattosaa, Satsuma Mura and Haikara-san series, and Satsuma Mura was launched in 2004. It is located in Iwagawa, Osumi Town, Soo City, and describes its concept as a masterpiece of Satsuma shochu born of the Meiji era.
